Below is a transcript of their message:

CNO: Shipmates, CNO Gilday here with my wife Linda to celebrate the Month of the Military Child.

Linda: During April, let’s take time together to recognize the patriotism, strength, and perseverance of our Navy’s military children. Let’s applaud their daily sacrifices, and the challenges they overcome day-in and day-out, especially this past year during the Coronavirus pandemic.

CNO: That’s right Linda, while life in the Navy can often lead to time apart for parents and children, now, more than ever, our families are displaying incredible resilience and grit.

Linda: As the parents of two young men who are both in college, we understand the impacts that the military life has on children and young adults as well as the important role those children play in our communities.

CNO: There’s no doubt, children are a vital part of the Navy’s mission success as they set examples for their friends, their neighbors and their local communities on how to make personal sacrifices in service of the collective good.

Linda: To our military kids today: thank you for your love and your support, which makes a career of naval service worthwhile.

CNO: And to all of our military children, past, present and future… Thank you.
