EOD Mobile Unit 12, Royal Canadian Navy Strengthen Partnership in Halifax

U.S. Navy technicians from Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit TWELVE (EODMU-12) and divers from the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic completed a joint Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) focused on strengthening Allied undersea capabilities, March 14-21, 2026. The exchange, held in and around Halifax Harbor, centered on advanced Mine Countermeasures (MCM) training and the integration of unmanned systems in a cold maritime environment.

This critical bilateral training underscores the Department of the Navy's emphasis on building warfighting readiness alongside trusted Allies. Throughout the exchange, operators shared MCM tactics, techniques, and procedures using the MK16 underwater breathing apparatus, a specialized rebreather that allows extended time at depth, and advanced handheld sonar systems. These procedures are essential for EOD technicians who must be prepared to counter threats in the maritime domain.
When Portfolio Acquisition Executive Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) was established in 1955 at the request of President Dwight D. SSP is the Navy command responsible for sustaining the Navy’s SWS on the Ohio-class SSBN and supporting the integration of the D5LE weapon system on the new Columbia-class SSBNs. Looking to the future, SSP is actively modernizing the sea-based leg of the nuclear triad through development of the D5LE2 SWS and pioneering regional strike capabilities of the future through development of the nuclear-armed sea launched cruise missile (SLCM-N) and the non-nuclear hypersonic conventional prompt strike system (CPS).' />
From Weeks to Hours: NRL’s ISIS360 Reduces Inspection Time Shipboard Tank Inspections

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has developed and fielded the next generation of its Insertable Stalk Inspection System (ISIS360), a non-human entry inspection technology designed to improve the safety, speed, and accuracy of shipboard tank inspections across the U.S. Navy’s Surface Fleet. The technology is collapsing inspection timelines from days or weeks to hours and enabling pre-assessment of tank condition, so only tanks requiring maintenance are opened during availability periods.
